Discover the Aragonês Grape Variety

Aragonês is the Portuguese version of Tempranillo, one of Spain’s most popular grape varieties. As original as ever, the Portuguese even give it a dual appellation based on its place of origin: in the north, it’s called “Tinta Roriz” while in the south, wine lovers know it as “Aragonês”. Whatever the designation, this grape is now the most planted throughout the country. It produces wines with aromas of red fruits, liquorice, blackberries and wild herbs, plus strong tannins which confer good aging potential. Fine, elegant and very aromatic, Tinta Roriz (or Aragonês) is also one of the most popular grape varieties in the Douro, where it dazzles in the production of the country’s famous port wines. Further south, in the Alentejo region, it contributes to the red wine blends that cultivate the growing reputation of the Portuguese vineyard.
